The author introduces some of the more recent thinking in relation to valuation and alternatives are discussed and demonstrated using practical examples.

The Econometrics of Individual Risk Credit, Insurance, and Marketing

The Econometrics of Individual Risk: Credit, Insurance, and Marketing
By Christian Gourieroux, Joann Jasiak
Publisher: Princeton University Press
Number Of Pages: 256
Publication Date: 2007-01-02
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0691120668
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780691120669
Binding: Hardcover
Product Description:
The individual risks faced by banks, insurers, and marketers are less well understood than aggregate risks such as market-price changes. But the risks incurred or carried by individual people, companies, insurance policies, or credit agreements can be just as devastating as macroevents such as share-price fluctuations. A comprehensive introduction, The Econometrics of Individual Risk is the first book to provide a complete econometric methodology for quantifying and managing this underappreciated but important variety of risk. The book presents a course in the econometric theory of individual risk illustrated by empirical examples. And, unlike other texts, it is focused entirely on solving the actual individual risk problems businesses confront today.
Christian Gourieroux and Joann Jasiak emphasize the microeconometric aspect of risk analysis by extensively discussing practical problems such as retail credit scoring, credit card transaction dynamics, and profit maximization in promotional mailing. They address regulatory issues in sections on computing the minimum capital reserve for coverage of potential losses, and on the credit-risk measure CreditVar.
The book will interest graduate students in economics, business, finance, and actuarial studies, as well as actuaries and financial analysts.

Insurance Intermediation An Economic Analysis of the Information Services Market (Contributions to Economics)

Insurance Intermediation: An Economic Analysis of the Information Services Market (Contributions to Economics)
By Martina Eckardt
Publisher: Physica-Verlag Heidelberg
Number Of Pages: 246
Publication Date: 2007-04-04
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 3790819395
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9783790819397
Binding: Paperback
Product Description:
Insurance intermediaries can help consumers to economize on information and transaction costs in insurance markets. However, competing intermediaries provide heterogeneous information services, which are difficult to assess by incompletely informed consumers. Conduct and performance in the market for insurance information services are analyzed by applying search theoretical and industrial organization approaches. Based on a sample of 927 insurance intermediaries, the factors that affect the quality of the information services provided by them are studied empirically. The results obtained support the main hypotheses derived from industrial organization theories as to the poor working of quality competition under incomplete and asymmetric information on the side of consumers. Thus, public policy should concentrate on increasing transparency about intermediaries’ (in-)dependence from insurance companies and improve consumers’ financial literacy to raise the overall quality in the information services market.
